Days 15-17 - Olympic, WA

Image
As promised, everything is indeed giant here. As you drive the roads the trees dwarf the cars. You are an ant in their world. Grateful for every moment you get to be among them. Hoping they will pass on even just an ounce of their wisdom. Somehow I doubt that's how the ants feel about us.   Even the ferns are giant. Many trees were hugged. Even one of the most common wildflowers, foxglove, stands tall and proud. The gray sky is just morning fog that only touched the coast. It burned off soon after this photo was taken. Not long after at another beach and not a cloud in the sky. More interesting rock formations. This is caused by sea foam. (I have no idea, but it sure looks like it. Maybe a geologist will weigh in if we are lucky.) The Sol Duc hot springs, where we stayed. If you are wanting more (as I suspect you do), here is a playlist of short videos of Olympic . On the drive up to Olympic our listening was dedicated to the 90's grunge band Hole. Say what you will about Co...

Day 14 - Ellensburg, WA

Image
As promised, here is our grain silo. It was quite cozy inside. In case you ever find yourself needing to furnish a round house, here's some ideas. We spent most of the day driving through the mountains and hills of Montana.  Not a lot of people in these parts. Total drive time was about 6.5 hours with charging. We had an early dinner in town. If you ever find yourself in Ellensburg, we highly recommend the Nashville cauliflower bites and BBQ jackfruit plate at Julep . We officially reached our most western state today, a great way to celebrate the end of our second week on the road. Tomorrow we head to Olympic for a few days! States traveled Montana Washington

Day 13 - Frenchtown, MT

Image
From Grand Tetons we made are way back up north, driving through Yellowstone one last time. Most of the drive was through the mountains and hills of Montana, ending in Frenchtown, MT. We were on the road for 9.5 hours. It was a long day. Exactly. On our LA road trip last year we listened to the complete discography of Wilco on the way out. It turns out that just after we got back home they released their 12th studio album, Cruel Country. So we listened to it today Tomorrow we stay in a grain silo in Washington before making our way to Olympic. Blog update! We heard from a few folks that they had trouble logging in to comment so we've made commenting anonymous, no logging in needed. Let us know if you still have trouble commenting. Days 11-12 - Grand Tetons, WY

Image
We switched up our plans and made our way to Grand Tetons a day early. I'd like to tell you that it was because of the stormy weather forecast in Yellowstone versus the sunny skies down in the Tetons. But if I'm being honest, three days in a rustic cabin with no internet surrounded by bears was our limit. We traded our cabin for a cozy cottage (with wifi!) for twice the price. It was worth every penny. We love being able to explore the country in an EV, but being without internet can make it tough to figure out charging (and food) when we are in remote places. With a little planning ahead we haven't run into any problems, but sometimes it can be a little stressful. Just like it must have been for the early pioneers. We suspect in a couple of years it won't even be something we would have to think about for a trip like this. It's all been worth it though. I mean just look at those mountains. There was surprisingly much less wildlife in Grand Tetons despite it only ...

Days 8-10 - Yellowstone, WY

Just as we suspected, the internet was terrible in Yellowstone, but luckily the park had some other perks.  It's tough to decide what was most impressive: the hot springs, the wildlife, the canyon, or the variety of wildflowers. Ok, it clearly wasn't the canyon. That was a test. Seriously though, Yellowstone is truly a unique world. Here is your obligatory bison shot. They were everywhere. I lost count of how many we saw well before noon on day 2. You actually cross the continental divide in two places in Yellowstone. If you are still wanting more, here's a playlist of a handful of short videos Tristan made of our Yellowstone time. After you watch one, keep scrolling down to see the next video. For wildlife we saw two foxes, almost a dozen bears, lots of elk, prairie dogs, marmots, countless birds including two bald eagles, and one million bison. I don't know what the average person's daily bear limit is, but nine in one day was plenty for me. It would have been el...
