Halfway

After leaving Olympic and heading south along the Oregon coast, it's really starting to feel like we've finished the trip to the Pacific. We've seen a lot of the coast the last couple days. It's rocky and beautiful and windy. But also we've been on the road for about 3 weeks, visited four of the six national parks we're going to see, and driven through 14 states. Soon we'll turn around, spending the next three weeks first up in Portland, then Seattle, then Glacier, and then driving east for a week.

Route 20, which starts in Kenmore sq. Boston is the longest road in the US at 3,365 miles, and we've spent a lot of time driving parallel to it (on rt 90, the longest interstate highway in the US). In fact, our cabin by Yellowstone Lake was right off of 20, near where the road originally ended before they extended it all the way to the west coast.

Yesterday was July 4th, which time-wise will be almost exactly the halfway point of our trip. Depending on when we end up getting back to Somerville, it probably would have beeen sometime around 3pm yesterday. As we were exploring the Oregon coast we stopped to eat lunch in Newport, and then pulled out of the little neighborhood to see we were at the end of rt 20, about 3,365 miles and three weeks away from home.
